The Lost 45s UK The Lost 45s UK are one of the finest purveyors of mod beat garage in the UK , and in the past year or so, they has proved themselves to be the finest of tunesmiths. Mixing up a cocktail of 60s influenced powered up mod beat, psyched out garage and R'n'B, The Lost 45s UK have a blended melody with a raw edge. After three self released CDs, Biff Bang Pow, the UK mod label, signed them up for an album, which resulted in ‘What Time Do You Call This?' one of the best releases from UK mod scene in 2006. ‘What Time Do You Call This?' is an alchemical infused cornucopia of ace tunes and listening to the album is a real pleasure. The moody garage of ‘Insomniac' and the nuggets-tastic freak out on ‘Ivy' are magnificent. Powered up pop gems ‘Billy' and ‘Sister Sue Said' take the top of your head off, and the joyful soul beats of ‘The Tracks Of Time' and ‘We Were Storming' are real stirrers of the spirit. Luckily for The Lost 45s UK their hard earned efforts paid off with a whole gamut of good reviews, and off the back of the enthusiasm for the album, the Lost 45s UK were invited to play many a swinging gig at various events on the mod scene, building up a reputation as a superb live band .
Not resting on the laurels, The Lost 45s UK decided to keep the ball rolling by releasing a double vinyl single at the end of 2006 on their own record label, iPurplesound! Records. As one would expect, the new songs on ‘ The Next Projected Sound of…' are all top drawer. The manically deranged Psychotic R'n'B is a sizzling mod garage growler that burrows into your brain. The soulfully thoughtful pop of ‘God Given', the stomping ‘Take Your Time' and the moody but melodic ‘Ghost Of The Noonday Sun', make the double vinyl single another mod beat tour de force by The Lost 45s UK. With the album and double vinyl single under their belt, The Lost 45s UK have entered 2007 with confidence. With their reputation gathering pace, a whole list of live dates are already booked at various mod, garage and scooter events throughout the year. They started their gigging year at a low key gig at The Wardrobe in Leeds where they showcased lots of new songs which will feature in forthcoming projects. I was at the gig and the omens for the future are very good indeed, a whole gamut of mighty new tunes performed with gusto, magnificent.
Amongst all this great song writing talent, one must not forget is the marvellously demented drumming of Dave Fairbrother, who is also a rather talented knob twiddler and knows how to bring out a tune with his astute suggestions. These and many other new tunes will hopefully be forthcoming through 2007, my ears wait with avid anticipation. Look out on The Lost 45s UK website to gain the latest news and gigs on their websites: http://www.thelost45suk.co.uk/ http://www.myspace.com/thelost45suk With worldwide sales of there previous two releases, The Lost 45s UK are hoping the venture forth into Europe at some point in the future to capitalise on their growing global reputation, and when it comes to studio recording, they have an ambition to put horns on a couple of their tunes, to expand the scope of their sound. Gigs that they already have lined up include the power pop extravaganza at Liverpool 's The Cavern, part of the International Pop Overthrow. They have also a gig booked at The Dirty Water Club, England 's premier garage rock night. They have various mod events booked which include the Leeds Mod Weekender, Tighten Up in Darlington and the Voodoo Working Mod Weekender in Birmingham . They have also been invited to play the Run To Shires Scooter Do, they have some major events to play this forthcoming year. Check out their website for dates and if you do get a chance, you must check out The Lost 45s UK live in 2007, as they are superb outfit. Jonny Magus
