Who are they ? Readers of these pages will need no reminding of the band known as Grasp. That quartet of quality power pop who disbanded towards the end of last year. Well, the good news is that there's a new band on the block who have risen out of their ashes. With the quintessentially British moniker of “Tommy Atkins”, Who's in the band? Spencer Taylor - Guitar / Lead Vocals John Hockley -Bass Guitar Kevin Carr - Keyboards What do they sound like? It's early days as yet, so there's not a significant amount of material available. They've got a strong guitar driven sound - not unreminiscant of Grasp's finest elements - with an edge deriving from the infectious keyboards that are so much a part of this band's sound. Where can you hear them? Just three rough demo's on their My Space http://www.myspace.com/tommyatkinsuk . But initial listens are promising. Which songs should you check out? My favourite has to be “Tell It How It Is” - a straight ahead adrenalin-fuelled anthem in the making. “Don't Believe It” has a more melodic feel with a standout keyboard signature while “Paranoia” put me in mind of some of the most memorable moments of British psychedelia. They are planning an ep later this year and live performances are on the cards. Watch their My Space for more information over the months ahead. From what we've heard so far, the future for Tommy Atkins looks good. Menu
