Sohostrut's Tony Talks to the new found kings of Power-Pop Tell us more about the band who does what and why ? Stocky Lead vox, Glenn Lead guitar and vox, Matt bass and vox drums erm..?
We made the front page of a couple of local papers and a couple in London with that one but over all it's been positive and we are looking forward to headlining @ The Carling Academy, Islington in London on the 24th Oct. If it wasn't for that change in what the public want we wouldn't be doing so well so thank god for that. We would probably still be doing what we do weather the public wanted it or not as we love what we do. we all love guitar bands with punch "The Jam" to the "The Sex Pistols" to "Oasis" and "Queens Of The Stone Age" , we hate EMO! "Radiohead" and the like you know what I mean "I'm really emotional, I was bullied at school (who wasn't) and I'm going to cut my wrists" all that sort of shit. Get over it and get on with it we say.
We do a show in a little local call "The Commercial" in "Burnley" and it's a real buzz they are total fans and always leave us on a high. The bus gig was the show stopper thou as it was a dream come true, I mean who doesn't want to do that!
We are full time and we do devote all of our time to writing and gigging at the mo but the money is still a way down the road.
we don't have a lot of time to sit and check out other bands but myspace is an important promotional tool for every band. Not so much me or Glenn we both support Sunderland but it doesn't rule our every waking hour, Matt however is a total football nut and huge Sunderland fan, we have to schedule gigs around games because of it but that's not a bad thing because we get an excuse to go and get pissed. We are finishing off our debut album "A S B O Generation" and Vodka are arranging a UK Tour for next year.
Exiting! Dynamic! controversial! Sanchogrey. Glenn Whisker - Guitar/Backing vocals, John Stocky - Guitar/Lead vocals, Matt Owen (The Squire) Maguire - Bass/Backing vocals, Adam Barnes - Drums/Percusion and Backing vocals. What a powerful band and with John Stocky on vocals this band have an edge, were talking a guitar band, not really or sounding Britpop in anyway. But with their roots firmly in the late Punk era, the powerpop side of the coin.. crashing Rickenbacker 'Suicide Bomber' opens with more than a hint of early Jam,and you can't ignore that parts of this sound just like The Jam's 'Strange Town', esp the riffs and hooks "there's a pale skinned man lives in my street with freckles on his skin and carrots in his hair' (wierd) there's is an insight to some good songwriting. The song runs along with crashing Rickenbackers and gruff vocals and more La La La's than 'The FutureHeads' manage to put into their tunes and the image is one of Weller and the boys circa '77. Quote... "What a band!!!!! |
