Mod-Power Pop-Britpop, it's all here mixed in a big bowl and thrown out 2006 style.Yeah this is good this is The On-Offs

Tell the good folks from Sohostrut about the line up of the band Andy, who plays what ?

Ok, The On Offs are Danny Connors - vocals & guitar,Andy Crofts - vocals & Bass,Luke Goddard - vocals & drums. We all sing but Danny does the most

You seem to have a very British out look in both style and performance tell us about any influences you have?

Yes we do appear like that although our influences are alot broader. As for our English influences....we all grew up listening to the same music such as The Kinks,The Small Faces,Beatles,The Specials,The Jam and The Clash etc.We all have a shared taste in music and tend to like anything that has a bit of soul to the recording.
Current and recent bands we have like are The Rifles, The Libertines,Jim Noir,The Coral,Zutons.ITs hard to answer but we dig alot of stuff..

For those who havent heard you, can you describe your sound, shame on them though !

We have been told that we are a cross between the kinks, buzzcocks,The Jam and The Zutons so I'm quite happy with that label.I cant really argue either.

Do you guys prefer vintage instruments or is it all bang up to date?

I think we all would prefere an old beaten up guitar from the 50s or 60s but realistically we aint got the money. We use gear that is no more that 15 years old apart from Dannys amp which is 70s and lukes drums which is 80s.Using old gear is more of a personal thing and looks nice (although I have played a 60s guitar through an old amp and it sounded cool). We have seen alot of bands using all sorts and there is some good new stuff out at the moment that sounds pretty good.

Tell us about the current single how is going down sales wise and hows it going down Live ?

The current single is called Wrong Upstairs,it was actually released about a month ago or something like that. Its written by Danny and was produced by Bernard Butler.Im not completly sure how it sold but I dont think it done to bad.I mean, all new bands must go through the hard stage of trying to get music out when they aint really known.MTV were behind us all the way so that was cool.Since we released the single the crowd have started getting into it alot more. They always seem to be singing along with it and other songs in the set so good on em!!

Talking of Live what was/has it been like on the road with The Rifles, that must be opening a few doors for you ?

Well, us and The Rifles both have the same crowd so yes,it kind of opened more doors but suited a certain audience more. The tour with The Rifles was brilliant and we loved every bit of it.We really dig their music and they were all sound people. We all became good mates out of the tour .We hope to do more shows with them at some point soon.

Where have been the best places you have played so far ?

Brighton,Isle of White festival,London Garage. To be honest there are quite a few now but my bext memory was Isle of White fest. Our gig werent the best but the free bar sun afterwards certainly made it great.I made some good friends that day..

Are the home town gigs good ? I mean Northampton's not been a hot bed of great bands has it, the local Indie crowd must be pleased to have such a good band to brag about ..

Every local gig we have had so far has been good. Its hard to see what people think in our area but everyone has been good and supported us well.I often get messages from younger local bands saying that they look up to us and want us to do well.

Who does the songwriting, what influences the songwriting for the on-offs.

Danny currently has the bigger percent of songwriting at the moment so I cant completly answer this one but I do know that we tend to talk about the things we get up to etc.You will have to listen....ha

Britpop, what do u think of that tag, although we call ourselves a britpop site, we have yet to tag you with that but on other sites I have seen u lumped in with Kaisers/Kooks etc what your views on that ?

Well its kind of true I suppose. Its not all bad,I mean someone has to label you at some point, but when your music gets out and crosses over, people can make their own minds up.

Do you have any connections with the Mod scene ?

Well it depends what you mean.My mate Rob and I run a club called The Buzz in Northampton which is basically a mod night but includes new music and stuff. We are a part of that movement yes, but we dont go on about it all the time.I have a 1967 Lambretta SX 150 in red and white....cool!!!

Are there any new bands out there at the moment who you particularly like ?

Like I said, I really like Jim Noir his album Tower of Love is brilliant.Errm who else....Larrikin Love,Babyshambles, The Rifles,The Zutons,Dirty Pretty Things,The Young Knives,Supergrass,Razorlite, The Pipettes ...I cant think but we like a lot of new bands and were on of them

Do you have any musical heroes ?

Im sure I speak for the others when I say, Lennon/Mccartney,Lane/Marriot Bb Marley,Ray Davies,Brian Wilson,The Specials,The Clash, Paul Weller, Arthur Lee of Love,Chuck Berry,Hank Williams,
The Skatallites and The La's

What are your plans for the immediate future ?

We are currently rehearsing and writing new music.
We are then with The Ordinary Boys in October then we will also release our next single in October.
In november we are main support for The Zutons on a tour until december. Then we sit back and get pissed fpr christmas ho ho ho.

Thanks Soho Strut see you soon
