Nick Heyward whats he realy rememberd for, looking about 10 years old on TOTP and fronting a somewhat Naff band..Yeah thats about but if you move the frame onwards to the mid 90's and UK Britpop era, you will either be more than in the know about Nick and his music at that time or he may have missed some of the best pop from a very exciting songwriter..Oh Yeah..

English-ness-Britpop guitars and lyrics

1998 Creation Records 'The Apple Bed' has the odd magic moment, but it's 95's 'Tangled' that was full of very English-ness-Britpop guitars and lyrics that reminded me often of the Kinks songwriting. It was a POWERFUL album, with some of Nicks best vocal work for years.Tangled,is full scorching Power chords and some great Harmonies, how it passed most by I'll never understand esp with the Creation Records link and all that was going on with them in the mid 90's, but pass you by it did.

The Jam and Carnaby Street

To accompany the album, Nick released an e.p of Beatles covers (A Hard Day's Nick - nice title! ) and it's Lennon and McCartney that are the biggest influences on Tangled in harmonies and vocal style- from the upbeat Rock of 'The World' , with it's references to ' The Long and Winding Road'.'Carry On Loving' is poss one of the strongest tracks on the album, with its jangle guitrs, hooks and twists-, the chimes of Big Ben,Nick takes the listener on a tour of all things British , citing The Clash, The Jam and Carnaby Street.

Killer guitar riffs

The sound also is very Mod,something I guess Nick was happy about as he states Weller as being a big hero and the track 'Can't Explain'. Tangled most effective song however with Killer guitar riffs has to be "Kill Another Day". It' one of those Albums that you'll play to death when you first lay your mits on it, yeah it's that good, and when you put it away and pull it out 3 or 4 years later, you'll play it to death again wondering why the hell you left it so long. It's a Mid 90's British Pop Album that EVERYONE should own..Tangled (Epic) 1995 .
