Who are you all and what do you play/who writes the songs? Adam 'Jubby' Taylor - Vox, Guitar Ben Stanton - Guitar, Vox Ashley Birch - Bass Mark White - Drums For anyone out there who's not heard or seen the band, how would you say you sounded? We like to say that we've got our own sound, but we get comparisons to the clash and the jam mainly. we all tend to take a lot of small influences off a lot of bands that you'd never compare us to, and add our own style...
Do you guys prefer vintage instruments or is it all bang up to date? Vintage instruments sound so much better. Birchy plays a 70's fender bass that's completely battered. Any new equipment we buy tends to be modern remakes of the old stuff. Ben's just got a hiwatt amp like pete townshend used in the 60's.
Whats ur view on the so called britpop revival? I've not heard anyone use that term yet( WE USE IT ALL THE TIME HERE AT SOHOSTRUT), but i think it's true that at the minute, most of the best bands are from britain. It is definatley the best time for music since the 90's. Maybe better as this time there's no band that is taking all the credit for most of the scene. Just a load of good bands.
Do you have any connections with the Mod scene ? We do listen to a lot of mod music especially northern soul and tamala motown stuff, aswell as mod bands, and tend to dress that way, but we have too many other influences that would exclude as being classed as mods. i think a lot of mod views were too strict and narrow minded for us.
Where have been the best places you have played so far ?, are the home town gigs good ? We've always had a soft spot for manchester as the crowd at Akoustik Anarkhy (a local night) really took to us and have given us so much support even before a lot of our home crowd did. We played our single launch in Sheffield at the boardwalk last week and were expecting probably a bout a hundred people. After soundcheck we went to come outside, and there were already people queing. An hour after the doors opened it'd sold out (something like 450 people). that's the first time it's gone really mad for us in Sheffield. Any Major Labels testing the water with you ? Can't say too much about that at the minute, but yes, there's a bit of interest at the moment. Good luck keep us posted ....and You seen to be picking up rave reviews, why is that what do you offer that others don't The reviews have been good. It seems to have kicked off really quickly at the minute. I think it's the fact that we're tend to be very picky when we're writing songs. we'd rather play a short set of good songs, than bang any crap in. we've only just started to feel happy about the set we play now, so instead of replacing songs everytime a new one is written, it'll start to grow. so that's the answer i think. good songs
You have a very cool image .Just wondered what are your thoughts on image ? we've never felt pressured to change how we dress or cut our hair to follow an image. it's just what's feels right. like you said earlier, we do have a mod type image, but that's more to do with what we grew up with. we all looked exactly the same before we were in a band. in the end it's all about the music. we wouldn't make music any different if we went up on stage in tracksuits .
Any bands past or present you'd like to gig with ? why ? we were asked this before. took a bit of arguing, but we got it down to either - the rolling stones, joy division and pulp i think. that was mainly so we got to watch them though more than anything.
What are your future plans? We want to making music for a living. we're all still working at the minute and it's wearing a bit thin! Also i think we want to do a collaberation with the remaining members of genesis at some point... Sum up the band in 3 words ? ? ? ? |
