They are part of the flourishing scene in Derbyshire. Final Straw deliver a sound that is refreshingly enthusiastic, raw and uncompromising. You can find them at http://www.myspace.com/finalstraw1 . The tunes are punky and hard with a deliciously anarchic edge, such as “Pilled Up Girl” and “Nitro”. You can see them at venues in Derbyshire right now. The band is: Sam Wilmot - lead vocals Josh Eaton - lead guitar/backing vocals Rory - guitar/backing vocals Chris woods - drums. Rob Massey put some questions to them:

How long have you been playing those tunes?
We have been playing our tunes for about 7 or 8 months

How did the band form? Were you mates before?
The band formed when josh and chris wanted to form a band and yes we were mates before

Where does the name come from?
Well as a band we had sooo many band names but we could not agree and we were just saying random names at band practice and josh thought of the last straw and we liked it, them on the way to band practice one day we were talking about the band name and i said final straw by mistake and we all liked that better so it came about like that.

Which bands/artists would you say have been a particular influence on you?
Micheal Jackson has a big influence on me that is one of the reasons I got into music and the band like: foo fighters, arctic monkeys, led zepplin, jimi hendrix, kings of lyon, The Who, Razorlight, sex pistols

Is there a particular phrase you would use to describe your sound?
Its is a very diverse punky rock sound !

I love "Pilled Up Girl". There must be a story behind it! Enlighten me!
Well pilled up girl is a about a girl we know who went to a gig well it was more of a rave and if you listen to the song that is the story of how it went down

Any other tunes you would mention in particular?
Well Nitro i have to mention this one you know sometimes the music takes ages to be ready well Nitro took ages and when the guys played it to me they just said make up some lyrics and i looked at joshes guitar and it said Nitro on it so the song I just based on Nitro Its funny how it works like that sometimes the lyrics come fast and easy.

Do you have a main songwriter, or are the tunes all band compositions?
Mainly it is me (sam) but a couple have been co-written between me and josh and one was co-written between me and chris yeah but mainly sam

Tell me about local scene.
The local scene is very good with bands around like long grass, The back up, and derbyshires band of 2006 the crooks its good and strong but i think the local bands need to branch out that is what our band want to do you not just play in derbyshire but get out there.

And now the dreaded Desert Island question. Which album would you take with you?
This is a tough one but i am going to go with.... Thiller by micheal jackson there is not a bad track on it for me its great.

And finally - what are your plans for the future? Our plans for the future are to get out there try and do as many gigs as we can try and get noticed so look out for us in the future you can check us out at www.myspace.com/finalstraw1
